General Service Employees Union records, 1937-1958.

Scrapbook containing newsletters, fliers, notices, and some correspondence relative to the activities of the General Service Employees Union, Local No. 73 of the Building Service Employees Union. This local union was previously known as the Chicago Public Library Employees Union, Local 88 of the State, County and Municipal Workers of America, CIO, 1937-1945; and as Local 2 (Library Chapter), United Public Workers of America, CIO, 1946-1952. Also included is one folder of newsletters, correspondence, event fliers including a poster advertising a reading by Langston Hughes, brochures, resolutions. The materials document the union's efforts to secure equitable wages and working conditions in addition to the union's various cultural and educational activities. Box 1 contains the scrapbook and folder of newsletters and other documents. Box 2 contains a poster advertising a Langston Hughes reading at the Chicago Public Library (1940).
